Well hey everyone!
As you might remember all those days ago when you read the last post, we last left you as we were leaving Myles in January to start his adventure in the Disney College Program (DCP).
We had also, at that point, had no idea if we were even going to be visiting Myles while he was down there on account of I was still laid off and looking for work. So you know, times was tight y’all.
But, in April, it finally happened. I landed a great job at an incredible company, doing what I love to do. I can’t explain how it felt to finally put those sad, hard, uncertain six months behind us. To actually have hit that light at the end of the tunnel that everyone told me would come. And I can say, now that I have been at my new company for a few months, maybe everything does happen for a reason? I mean, I was never this comfortable or happy at my last place. It just never felt like a right fit. But here? Now? I feel good. Definitely a better fit. It’s a great company full of great people doing great things. I kind of forgot what it was like to be appreciated and valued at a company. Turns out it feels nice.
I don’t know what the future holds but right now? I’m happy.
So yeah. #blessed and all that.
And getting this new job meant we could actually plan a trip to go down and visit Myles. Literally, once I got the offer, we booked a trip for like the next week. And it all worked out since that next week was April vacation for Owen.

I say let’s just get on with it and let the details unfold…Lets’ah go!
Visiting Myles during his time in the DCP: Day 1
Being that this was a kind of spur-of-the-moment decision, we didn’t really have much of a countdown happening here. But still, look. Lookit what we are doing today!

The countdown? It starts and ends today. That’s the best kind of countdown.
And like, even though I hadn’t started work yet, Nickie had her job and Owen had school. So the morning – it was a Friday – really didn’t offer up much in the way of blogability. There were Crunch Berries.

And there was a sandwich.

Though. I mean. These cans.

I mean, fine. OK. Crunch Berries and Iron Man Coke cans are probably blog-worthy. I’ll give you that.
We did dismiss Owen a little early from school though given we had an early afternoon flight. We grabbed him from school at around noon and brought him back home.
So he could change for the flight.
And we could say our goodbyes to these two.

Aw LIlo.

Aw Stitch.
Aw puppers.
We would miss them, obvs squad. But I mean, we were going to see Myles you guys.
We were at the airport and through security at around 1:30PM. Our flight wasn’t until 3:15 so we..
Wait.
Oh, you don’t believe me? Is that it?
Well. Pfft. Well. Look at this jerk.

No wait. I forgot a comma. I didn’t mean, like, look at that jerk in the photo. I meant look at this YOU jerk.
Ha, what a comical miscommunication that I totally made up in my head.
Annnnnyway.
So like I was saying. We arrived at 1:30. Our flight wasn’t until 3:15. So we had some time to kill. And what better way to kill time than with food and beer.? To the Harpoon Brewery!

Hah, look at that jerk.
Oops, forgot the comma again.
Or did I?

The place was pretty packed so we had to wait a lil bit for a seat but eventually we were seated at the bar facing out. Look at these two. Facing out.

And like, since we were in a Harpoon Brewery, I obvs got a beer.
I mean, when in Rome.

Ha, stop.
But yeah, a beer. I believe I went for a Clown Shoes Rainbow. Because I like shoes and rainbows.
Clowns are also a thing that exists.

But yeah, I mean….I also like Clown Shoes beer in general and I love hazy beer, which this was. So I liked it you guys. Is what I am saying to you now.
Look at us. Facing out.

But it wasn’t ALL beer and facing out smiles you guys. We also got food.
Owen legit HAS to order a pretzel if its on the menu. So order it we did.

As you can see above, this guy was served with mustard AND cheese. Specifically, it was served with Harpoon IPA Cheddar Cheese Dip.
We also got the Loaded Tots (Crispy Tots, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Ranch Drizzel, and Scallions).

All good stuff. Those tots were pretty incredible, especially for airport food. Highly recommend.
We finished up at around 2:40ish so we paid our bill, headed to our gate, and saw this dude waiting for us.

We already went over this but for all of you that weren’t paying attention, we boarded and departed at around 3:15. By 3:30, we were airborne.
Lookit Boston. It’s wicked pissah.

I settled into a movie for the flight – the horror movie Talk to Me.

Which.
Was.
Awesome.
About an hour into the flight, the service started and I opted for the Sun Chips. 2 bags. Obvs.
Oh, and a rum and coke.
Obvs.

Like I said, Talk to Me was incredible. Really good horror. And like, I kept that horror train running after it finished.

I have been on a big Stephen King kick lately, trying to read his novels in chronological order. At this point, a few months ago, I was still in the 70’s reading his longest novel, The Stand. A few months have passed since this trip so I just finished Cujo and am moving onto the first Dark Tower book.
Don’t act like you’re not impressed.
I got a little bit of reading in before Owen talked me into playing some trivia.

I was poo.

And like. I dominated. As evidenced above.

We landed at around 6:30ish. And OF COURSE we looked cool doing it.

After disembarking, Nickie and Owen went to grab the luggage while I went down to the rental car counter to get us set up in this beauty.

Our plan for tonight was to get some groceries for our room, but we were all pretty hungry so we stopped off at Chik-Fil-A first.
We ate in the car. Look. Here’s my “table.”

I mean, of course it was good. It was Chik-Fil-A you guys.
Then it was over to Walmart. Grocery shopping was a must on this trip because of where we were staying – a Disney resort we actually have not stayed at before but always wanted to.
This was our grocery order, if that’s any clue.

Hrm, I mean…beer. Pretty normal. More beer. More normal.
Chips. Oreos. OK.
Wait. Burgers? Bug spray?
Huh?
Huh?
OK fine. We were staying at The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness.

Ugh, this was exciting. And we got a great deal because of Myles’s discount. So that’s, like, double-exciting.
We were excited about being excited.
And with plans in place to update a lot of the cabins, it was cool we were getting to experience the old-school ones before changes took place.
Wanna check out the room with me?
Well. You have no choice really. Because here we go.
So you saw the outside up there but as you walk to the right, you walk onto the deck / porch, where they have a picnic table and grill.

You walk through the door, and looking to your right you see all this cuteness. Seriously, lookit this place.

Couch. Chair. Table. TV. It’s like a little house in there. Cozytown.
And yeah, of course that sofa folds out into a bed.
And I mean. Those lights. Stop. With the lights.

Looking straight ahead from the door, you look directly into the kitchen.

Full-size refrigerator, convection oven / microwave, stove top, sink, dishwasher. So many things that, like, I hardly want to use at home but for some reason feel so much more fun on vacation.
“OMG I can cook and do dishes here? Ohai Paradise.”
If you turn to your left once inside, there is a short hallway leading down to the bedroom. As you make your way to the bedroom, the bathroom is on your right.

I call that the 100-Acre Wood.
Because Pooh lives there.
…
…
I’ll be here all week. Try the veal.
Keep going down the hall and you hit the bedroom.

Yup. Master bed along with two bunk beds. So essentially? Like 20 people could sleep in this place.
If my math is correct.
Now, Fort Wilderness is hugetown. So we also rented a golf cart, which we picked up when we first checked in, to get around.

So fun.
As we unpacked, we got to watch the Red Sox play the Angels. Which was a pretty sweet situation given neither of those teams are from Florida.

Speaking of, how about a quick baseball joke?
Q: What position does the Kool-Aid man play in baseball?
A: Relief pitcher

Myles was working at EPCOT tonight, custodianing it up and he finished up around 11PM. So I hopped in our rented Kia and drove over to the EPCOT employee parking lot to pick him up. Of this? I took no pictures.
But look you guys! Look at these two handsome lads.

Earlier we grabbed Myles some Chik-Fil-A so he enjoyed that while we all hung out, caught up, and watching the Red Sox beat the Angels 8-6.
And that was Day 1 of us going to see Myles. Post 3. Day 1. Numbers are meaningless.
And get excited for Day 2 you guys. Because we don’t go to a park that day either!
You really stumbled on a winner with this blog. Last post – Post 2!
